Google says it has added ways for people to request that some personal information not be included in online search results. In a recent announcement, the company said it would now let people request that some of their personal details be removed from Google searches. Such details could include information like phone numbers, email and physical addresses. The new policy also permits the removal of information that could aid criminals aiming to steal people’s identities. This could include log-in information used to visit websites. Google said in a statement it believes that open access to information is important. But, it added, “privacy and online safety go hand in hand.” The new policy “is empowering people with the tools they need to protect themselves and keep their sensitive, personal, identifiable information private,” the statement said.
